Xplornet service is about as bad as it gets. It's not just the abysmally slow data rates, it's also the attitude of the personnel. I have been a reluctant customer for quite a few years because there is no other option where we live except dialup. Even that isn't a viable option because I can't get a second phone line.

I really don't give a rats azz about their Fair Access Policy. That is part of the service they fail to deliver. Right now I am enjoying a 40 meg download of the latest version of Google Sketchup at the blindingly fast rate of 8.23KB per second. It should be illegal for them to advertise "BROADBAND EVERYWHERE" which they do on their home page.

They simply do not have the bandwith to supply the number of customers they have. Plain and simple, no excuses. Their business plan is only viable if they short change their customers by selling what they cannot deliver.

I am doing everything I can right now to eliminate them as a viable option in this area by pestering other providers to supply this area. Shaw cable terminates only 2 klics up the hill from our valley and Telus could install a DSLAM in the hut down the road tomorrow. It even has fibre running past our valley to serve the indian reserve 30 klics further out.

I had internet with Netkaster for almost 4 years until xplornet bought out my account effective July 1 2011. Since then my net connection is 1/3rd of the speed I enjoyed with Netkaster. i.e. 8 - 9kb a sec. Talked to the tech today, said it was fap.
How can fap be in effect after just surfing a few pages for the weather report?? Apparently its in effect right away soon as you open the first page of the net. The tech said nothing he can do about it. I have been testing my connection since the 1st of July, 2011. Same thing everytime. A burst of speed for the first 10 seconds and downhill from then. Within 8 minutes I am enjoying a blazing speed of 8 - 9kb.
I am so sorry Netkaster sold my account to Xplornet. I guess I have to find an alternative now.

That "dynamic congestion policy"(a throttle designed to prevent full connection speed for longer than a few minutes) is probably what is screwing you over.

And the "hourly FAP" too(variable MB per hour download limit, depending on users online in your Spotbeam/NOC/Gateway).
