So I checked my McAfee traffic monitor and it had a total of 6.9 gb for this period. That's a 10 gig difference . Customer service was no help (as usual) and insisted that their numbers were correct. I know what I downloaded. In view of their offer to sell extra gigs @ $2.00 ea. this borders on outright FRAUD. How can they get away with this ? There is no appeal. Also their promise to call me back within 48 hours was bogus They just want to rob you. Yes Xplornet really does suck.
Same thing happening here! I find these mid-monthly emails from them a harassment and I also measure much lower usage than they do. Their argument was that my router/software possibly does not measure all protocols. I'm using a dd-wrt firmware router which has WAN metering built in. They should be legally required to make their metering transparent. They promised to have a web interface for checking but nothing happens.

Heres a question that Xplornet probably does not have an answer for.
"does Xplornet count the usage of the communication that is solely for the basis of contact between the NOC(gateway) and the Modem, as being also the users Internet usage?"

Since there is communication between the NOC(gateway) and the modem when the user is not using the Internet. The user can even be unplugged from the modem and there will still be usage.
That can result in higher usage numbers unfairly being charged to the user. One to note, is when the firmware on the modem gets updated.

Heres a thread on DSLreports on "weights and measures Canada". It mostly goes nowhere, but if a user is going to be charged per MB or GB, then the ISP should need to prove accuracy.
