Thumbs up free from Xplornet at last !!!!

been a customer of theirs (satellite) for years now and have to admit they are absolutely the worst isp / internet provider I have ever met

looks like the bell netgear cellular modem is working pretty well for me altho' i may need an external antenna, but 10 GB / month for $60 / month is a hell of a lot cheaper than $199 / month from Xplornet

you can buy the Bell Netgear modem/router for $300 (no contract) or $149 (2 year contract) - i bought it outright

latency is waaaayyyyyy better ( and that makes a major difference for email and basic surfing)

latency less than 100 ms most of the time (something Xplornet satellite can NEVER even come close - my Xplornet latency was 1000+ ms - that over 1 second !)
downloads not bad
uploads better
much much much better with weather - with xplornet satellite i said; "it tolerates weather worse than my cat"
but i haven't installed an external antenna yet, that will boost power even more - cost about $400 w/ installation
i'll report more when and if i get one

customer service is better - at least they have people to answer the phone unlike Xplornet where sometimes you get transferred to a line that rings forever or you get "disconnected" while on hold

also Bell realizes they have some issues and are willing to give credits for poor service whereas Xplornet keeps all your money cause the Barrett family needs another house or 2

my municipality received some money from the province and I am fighting hard to make sure they don't allow Xplornet wireless here - I keep telling them my horror stories with Xplornet satellite
they awful service and support

I was once told by an Xplornet rep that "30 day is an acceptable timeframe for an email reply"

tells you all you need to know about Xplronet and their logic

stay away from these people like the plague

they are a horrible, terrible company with only greed on their minds and taking money without providing proper service

to paraphrase a famous American; "free at last, free at last, God almighty I'm free of Xplornet at last"

ps - for those still under the yoke of Xplornet, check out Rogers/Bell/Telus for their cellular hub solutions and find an installer that can sell and install an antenna

stop the insanity that is Xplornet !!

Congratulations! I may never get out from under the thumb of satellite.

C an I ask about the booster you speak of...

"but i haven't installed an external antenna yet, that will boost power even more - cost about $400 w/ installation "

Do you have a link on this equipment? Can it be installed "DYI"? I live in a Vally and get very poor cell reception. I would love to boost me cell reception for my house.

xplornet, telsat, 1 Mbps package

myxplornet test speeds 90% of the time; 205 kbps down and 20kbps - 40kbps up. I have a 16yo in the house, we live in the FAP zone. 50,000kb and we are fapped. 10 Gb / month max

no alternative, no regulation, no one to complain to

my bell installer (the only one i trust is 50 km away - the rest aren't good) has a line on an antenna called "Wilson" for the bell turbo hubs

i don't know if they can be DIY as they need to be tuned as they are directional

why not call several bell installers and see if they have it

where are you located?
"Vally" doesn't really tell me much

After reading this, I was going to puke!
then I looked at the date. A company has to start somewhere right?
yesterday I had them come and hook me up to the new 4G system.
cute little sqaure dish on my roof and get pings anywhere from 34ms to 89ms. I am on 7mb DL speed with 30gig cap. Got a great deal with my contract, no installation charge and the equipment is free. I was given 3 months of free download cap. I understand when contacting them can be a waite, I find them better then Bell and Cogeco's staff. Polite and ready to resolve my issue I had. Turned out the installers set me up to 3mb and a package we dont have here. Yet with all the bad rep they get here, they are resolving it.

Like I said, A Company starts low and yes people can get screwed. After these few years, they became the best.

Hope you people enjoy your controlled service and down time. Xplore Net has inproved and leaving these other companys in the dust!

Brummell, I'm guessing from your response that you have terrestrial wireless service, not satellite service.

Yeah, that was my point, but I was trying to make it subtle so he would think about it. Posting in the satellite category and telling people how great your wireless service is, is like going to a Chevy forum and saying they shouldn't complain because your Mercedes works great.

haha yes you are absolutely right. Sometimes details elude me in text based communications, and actually your point is well taking - as I posted before reflecting myself.
