Default FAP what is and what does it stand for.

Firstly I am a new member who has kept an avid eye on this site. Although I am a new member I have been a subscrtiber to xplornet for 5 years. Yes I here you say how do you do it. Well its easy I give the customer service hell.
Not being from Canada and knowing when not to sign a contract. Let me be clear contracts are for dumbasses. I do not have a contract or do not think 10$ is worth the crap over.
I read in the columns everyday of how they ask you to go up a level to improve. All I can say is dont It only goes down to what you had before as soon as you sign up.
I see installer writing in telling you this and that. Do not listen they are only interested in keeping their job.
There is nothing you can do to improve the speed because of FAP
Whether you like it or not they do it.
If you are like me on the KA band you are FAPPED both upload and download applying. So in otherwords add both together.
After a lengthy talk with customer services, level 2 I may add, I mean am I supposed to be honoured or what, asfter all I amm paying for this or what.
Well after being told that upload and download count I was then told that I was being fapped at the moment. Well I asked why as I have a network programm that tells me evrything I use both upload and download and as I had only turned my machine on. I had only spoke to him on skype and I had used only 7 MB yes 7and only 7MB why was I then fapped. This means that after about 7MB an hour you are fapped. BUT if you use it during the following hour it takes longer to get unfapped.
JUST INCASE YOU DONT UNDERSTAND THE MORE YOU USE THE MORE YOU LOSE.,
Well it only took me 5 years to get that. Hughesnet looks good now as you get 200MB a day which I dont normally use and you get a free couple of hours through the night.

NOW TAKE NOTE OF THE ABOVE AND READ THIS CAREFULLY. I DONT CARE WHAT YOU HEARD KA XPLORNET HAVE NO SUCH DOORWAY THROUGH THE NIGHT. IT MAY BE FASTER BUT IT COUNTS TOWARDS YOUR DOWNLOAD SO A BIG FILE MIGHT FAP YOU EVEN LONGER I KNOW I AM ON IT.

So any installer/worker for xplornet is talking S&%t they are only looking after their job.

Another thing I find is everyone bleating on about download speed. That may be well and good but different measurements require different answers so here is a benchmark for you.

128 upload works out at 16kB/s.

So when browsing, check it out.

Hope this helps.

Oh and by the way, I have 128 upload and 512 download.

I would not give then anymore as I would get this even if I paid them more.

So dont do speed tests its not worth it. You will get fapped as it is a download.

Last but not least do not compare with Hughesnet and they are not the same. They have different policies.

I cannot get anything else so I may as well go the Human Rights rote nothing to loose.

I'll grant that Xplornet may have changed their policy in the year or so I've been off the Kazam package. But the way it used to work was this: Telesat had an hourly limit, not a fixed number, but rather a limit that varied depending on the current usage of the satellite. Users on this site (myself included) have seen that during peak times the FAP can be triggered by only 11 to 12 MB being transferred in one hour. If you hit the limit at only 7 MB, I'm not surprised; it suggests either (a) their usage has increased, or (b) they have tightened the FAP policy a bit.

You are also correct that Telesat has no official "FAP-free" period during the night. What does happen during the night is that satellite usage drops so low, that you can draw your full bandwidth without triggering a FAP limit. In my case that was about 200 MB per hour. I downloaded many GB of Linux ISOs from midnight to 7 am by careful planning. Near the end of my Kazam service I noticed that I was getting FAPped as late as 1 a.m.; I suspect this is because others started using the same strategy I did, and usage after midnight increased (thus causing a lower FAP limit). Again, it's possible that overnight usage is now high enough that you can't download 200 MB per hour at any time. I do know that many Windows users are setting their PCs to perform automatic updates at 2 or 3 am.

Before I switched to wireless, I did quite a lot of testing of the Kazam package, and you can still find my results posted on this forum. But that was over a year ago, and the situation may have changed.

yep but when on to customer services it was 8am. bit early to be fapped. I use networkx to monitor my upload/download and can do it hourly, daily, monthly etc. I was able to say that over the past 4 days i had not gone over 100mb and that hourly was about 8mb at a push and that myt average download speed mas a max of 3.5kB/s to 600 bytes per sec.
Crap or what?

Oh, no, 8 am is not too early to be FAPped. The business users have started ramping up by then. I occasionally was able to keep a download going past 7 am, but that was pushing my luck. (I actually discovered when the "morning FAP" kicks in, but I'd have to dig back through old posts to find that info now.)

And if you're on the Telesat Ka system, it's pointless to monitor your daily usage. Only your hourly usage counts. You can go a solid week with 0 MB per day, and then download 11 MB in one prime-time hour and zap, you're FAPped.

Incidentally, your hourly usage is not measured from the top of the hour. The "usage clocks" for different users are staggered throughout the hour, so all the users don't come out of FAP at the same time. So it might be the period 7:16 to 8:16, or 7:39 to 8:39, or who knows what. If you can monitor your bandwidth minute-by-minute you can see the FAP kick in, and later get reset. The reset tells you the start-of-hour for your usage clock.

I used to get about 50 KB/s at full speed (KaZam), and maybe 10-20 KB/s when FAPped. If you're getting 3.5 KB/s or less when FAPped you should definitely complain. (Although they might have lowered the FAP speed since I was using satellite.)

I found the thread where I posted my test results:
http://www.xplornetsucks.com/forums/...read.php?t=754

Back then the morning FAP kicked in closer to 9 am than 8 am. Well, times change.
