Default Federal Funding to Provide Broadband to Rural Canadians

Listen to this BS!

Barrett says it will offer "urban quality broadband at urban prices."

Should read..."Xploitnet takes gov cash and pockets the profit while screwing the little guy"

xplornet, telsat, 1 Mbps package

myxplornet test speeds 90% of the time; 205 kbps down and 20kbps - 40kbps up. I have a 16yo in the house, we live in the FAP zone. 50,000kb and we are fapped. 10 Gb / month max

no alternative, no regulation, no one to complain to

Thumbs down

"urban quality broadband at urban prices."

total bullsh*t

urban prices, really?
when't the last time Rogers or Bell DSL wired services were knocked out due to rain?
Xploitnet satellite service tolerates rain as well as my cat

They charge $169 / month for 2mbps / 512 kbps, and almost never get better than 200 kbps upload and that's just fine according to Xploitnet, that claim to provide 80% of bandwidth 80% of the time
200/512 is far far less than 80% according to my calculations

exactly how is that "urban" pricing or "quality" ?

to ANYONE considering satellite internet, DON'T DO IT !!!

Thumbs down my reply to the marketnews article

Barrett says it will offer "urban quality broadband at urban prices."

Really? Let's compare.

their current pricing is $50 / month for 512 kbps down and 128 kbps up + installation and purchase of equipment for $169/month you get 2 Mbps down and up to 500 kbps up - hardly "urban pricing" or "quality"

for $50 one can get Bell or Rogers DSL wired service 6 Mbps / 640 kbps

perhaps they're using the same accounts as Bernie Madoff?

let's now examine "latency"

with wired DSL you get about 30 ms or so with satellite from Xplornet you get about 1,000 ms - makes surfing the net a real pain, especially if it's your job

outages with satellite occur far too often with sometimes several per day and sometimes for hours at a time

I've heard excuses from them such as; too cold, too sunny, too rainy, too cloudy

I've spent about $1,000 so far on equipment and replacing equipment and service calls.

It seems Barrett is only out to make money by over charging and under delivering their "services"

Don't take my word for it. Check out the many, many unhappy customers at; http://www.xplornetsucks.com/forums

their satellite service is very expensive and very bad - one never gets anywhere close to advertised speeds and the service tolerates rain less than my cat

Customer service is horrid. Their phone system is constantly kicking me out and one has to call back many times just to get a glorified "secretary" who rarely knows anything more than "unplug your router and unplug the modem"

This corporation represents the 2 main satellite providers in Canada so it is a glorified monopoly and acts as one.

I have put my house up for sale to move somewhere that has WIRED DSL.
