Exclamation new Traffic Management Policy for the Fixed Wireless dec 6 2016

On December 6, 2016, this new Traffic Management Policy for the Fixed Wireless 4G and LTE platforms will be in effect.

Anyone think they will notice a difference once this goes into effect?

Interesting that Xplornet is targeting encrypted traffic

and most encrypted traffic
Encrypted keeps your web trail private. For bandwidth management, encryption is seen as pure evil and gotta throttle private traffic they can't see inside to apply applicable throttles.

Xplornet users already know about OS updates being throttled. And if that includes security updates still, fuck em. Back to the good old days of throttling the piss outa anything that aint bare bones web browsing and email, with the now added bonus of being able to VOIP.

Minimum 100Kbps can be really slow depending on LAG and quality of signal, which can effectively result in blocking of content.

While these policies may affect the transfer speed of certain traffic in certain circumstances, these policies will not cause your transfer speed to fall below 100 kbps.

Prohibited traffic management practices

Unless your service provider has received prior approval from the CRTC, it may not use traffic management practices that do any of the following:

Block the delivery of content to you
Noticeably degrade time-sensitive Internet traffic
Slow non-time-sensitive traffic to the extent that it amounts to blocking the content

If you believe that you service provider’s traffic management practices are not compliant with the CRTC policies, we encourage you to contact your provider. If you remain unsatisfied you may write to the CRTC. Please indicate which ITMP your feel has been breached; when the problem occurred and if it is recurring; which software program, or application, has been affected and how; and the steps you have taken to try to resolve the issue, including your provider’s response:

To minimize the effects of congestion on certain types of applications, our systems assign applications to one of four categories:

Category Application Type

One:
Voice calling (Voice over IP)

Domain Name System (DNS) and network management

Two:
Web browsing

Social networking

Online Gaming

Three:
All traffic types not assigned to categories one, two or four which includes among other types: web video, video streaming and most encrypted traffic

Four:
App downloads and software updates

Cloud storage and backup services

File transfer applications

Peer-to-peer file sharing applications

Newsgroup/Usenet

What this means: At busy times, we work to ensure that a good experience is maintained for Internet phone calls, web browsing and social networking.
