Default Oligopoly ( march 2013 )

A spoof advertisement about how you 'the wallet of the corporation' can give them money while you get shitty service.
Oh but wait! You get good service at the start and then it turns into shitty service.

When those that are voted in to run the country don't work for the people, you get a country run by corporations who wish they could just do auto withdrawals from their customers accounts and don't even need to provide a service that actually works 99% - 88% - 45% of the time - it'll work when you are not home.
Oh that actually happens already and the government makes sure that the wallet can't prosecute the corporation for their crimes against the people. Also called 'obstruction of justice'.

Just a snippet of the transcript in case you can't watch the video right now:

You'll have the option of choosing from several of our completely unwarranted ripoffs, including internet speeds almost 200 times slower than Korea... at twice the price. TV packages with over 500 channels, 90% of which you can't view and we guarantee a plethora of hidden fees. Then our barely trained technicians will come to install your service somewhere between the hours 8am and 10 pm, knock once while you're in the shower, and promptly leave.... Why you ask? We're part of what is called an "oligopoly." It's like a monopoly... only legal!
Your local high speed Internet and or Cable provider. You won't like it, but fuck you anyways as there is no other option.

Almost forgot on how in the U.S. there are areas where the copper phone lines are being abandoned.

Even the areas that the Telco was getting fiber to the home, have been put on permanent hiatus.

You see there is cable available as an alternative, which is basically one wire(like a sewer line), and since the Telco is moving over to LTE as it is easy to maintain(one tower and no need to have an army of employees going to homes), you end up with politicians dumping any law that states about having landline phone service to each home.
Maybe the taxpayer used to own all those phone lines on the poles and the Telco leased them from the government, but the Telco now owns those lines and screw you.

Cable likes the arrangement with the Telco, as now the Cableco can sell their lame ass triple play. TV, phone, Internet with also an increased markup.
Along with DNS hijacking and walled gardens that force you to see ads injected by the ISP into your browsing sessions. Oh and if your neighbors are heavy internet video users since the Cableco has sold a shitload more bandwidth to the customers than is available? Well fuck you.

The LTE is also highly profitable in regards to the monetary gouging they do for data prices.
If you were doing 60GB's a month on DSL for 50 bucks, well then how about tripling or even more that price for the same data, provided that you are not heavily throttled at 10GB or cut off entirely for using the data you paid for.

Unlimited? Not really. Unlimited to some Internet providers is an always on connection. But damn you if you try to use it constantly for stuff that uses data above a couple of measly GB's.

The Telco's and Cableco's even team up to sue towns who attempt to put in their own high speed Internet. The Cableco/Telco call it unfair business practices as people will obviously go to the towns system as it is 10 times faster.
In some cases the Cableco/Telco just bribe their bought and paid for politicians to make a law that bans towns from moving into the 21st century in regards to modern infrastructure.
The latest is where if one home in a 5 digit postal code has 3Mbps speed, well obviously the entire zip code has high speed internet and no need to bring in any more.
