Default Bell buys MTS, Xplornet gets wireless scraps Feb 2017

New forum for Xplornet mobile http://www.xplornetsucks.com/forumss...splay.php?f=33

Bell has been allowed to Purchase MTS (Manitoba Telecom Services).
MTS will be slightly cut up to give the illusion of competition.

As a condition of the deal, Bell MTS agreed to transfer wireless spectrum, wireless customers and six retail outlets to Xplornet Communications Inc., which intends to launch a mobile service in the province. Xplornet will also receive access to the Bell MTS network for three years as it builds out its own network.
Bell MTS will also divest approximately one quarter of MTS subscribers to Telus, which amounts to about $300 million, and 13 retail locations. This was part of the original plan submitted to the Competition Bureau last May.

BCE Inc.'s acquisition of Manitoba Telecom Services has been given the green light by the federal government, but with conditions aimed at boosting Xplornet Communications Inc. as a regional competitor in the mobile wireless market in Manitoba.

In a release issued Wednesday, the federal Competition Bureau said it has agreed, after a nine-month investigation, to BCE's $3.1-billion deal for MTS, that will see BCE sell some wireless spectrum to Xplornet, along with six retail stores and 24,700 subscribers.

The Competition Bureau has also ordered BCE to give Xplornet "expedited access" to its cell towers in Manitoba for five years, mobile roaming services and help with buying handsets to help it become the fourth player in the market, along with Bell, Telus and Rogers.
