Seems that Xplornet is throttling Ninjavideo.net to 300kbps.. Torrents I can sort of understand but throttling specific services?.. Where do we draw the line? Youtube isn't throttled to 300kbps it downloads at the standard 900kbps, maybe that'd piss off google too much?.. Wouldn't wanna piss them off.

I've noticed this 300kbps capping for several weeks during peak time. Can anyone else confirm this?

Sure am going to enjoy seeing Xplornets 'new' traffic management policy.

Should be about 100 pages of sites that are now going to be throttled for Xplornets Advantage. So Xplornet doesn't have to keep increasing backbone/tower/satellite bandwidth for all the users.

Two threads about new throttling and monthly limits for Telesat satellite users.

This poses questions as to whether the Canadian
Telecommunications Act has been followed to the letter. Section 36
of the Act states that, without the approval of the Canadian Radio-
Television and Telecommunications Commission, a "Canadian carrier
shall not control the content or influence the meaning or purpose of
telecommunications carried by it for the public," and Section 27(2) of
the Act prohibits a Canadian character, in providing a
telecommunications service, from "unjustly discriminating or
giving an undue or unreasonable preference toward any person,
including itself, or subjecting any person to an undue or
unreasonable disadvantage

That's true, they still haven't complied with the CRTC's traffic management disclosure policies ie. the letter dated Jan 22 from CRTC to Xplornet on the subject(They've passed their 30 days to comply BTW). Seems all of Xplornet knows about the letter too, Angela phoned me back last week and made reference to it... I'll be uploading that conversation after I hear back from her again regarding upgrades to the network I'm on and compliance with the United Counties RFP specified MINIMUM 1.5mbps service level.

In some ways I feel sorry for Xplornet's employees taking all the crap for the few and the stock holders who are getting RICH by overselling bandwidth to the EXTREME.

I don't know what the hell they are doing at Xplornet but its fucked lol. The past 2 days in a row, I have had useable internet during the day, and better yet, the evening. I have no clue why but ping times under 100 from morning til night is fine by me. But there is always a catch, these past 2 nights after all that good connection, it goes to shit in a matter of seconds. Ping from 45 to 1500 just like that, 1.6mb download gone to .8mb. No clue whats going on, just another mystery of Xplornet I guess. Unless everyone around here stopped using it during the day and just decided to only surf after 1am lol. By the way I received an email from Ripnet promoting their internet and that current customers of Xplornet considering moving to Ripnet would receive a 200 dollar credit...not bad, but they are still fairly pricey!

I spoke with a very wonderful Ripnet sales person today. She said they are looking at increasing the bandwidth caps on their service. I told her that was the only thing holding me back from signing up for their wireless service. Apparently (according to the sales rep) the speeds advertised are the speeds received... very tempting. She said that they will contact me when the new package caps are decided. /me can't wait

Checkout the comments from "whatabunchofbull100" on my youtube video. They signed up today and only commented on two video's, mine and Alan Watt's anti Xplornet video( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXiw8fSmtYE )

Someone flagged my video for "privacy infringement" today and I can only theorize it was "Angela from Xplornet" for content at 0:07 (the first time her voice is heard) seems highly suspect that "whatabunchofbull100" might also be the flagger. Canadian privacy laws permit the recording of private conversations but also the conversation between Angela and myself was never private since we were both aware Xplornet was recording it for "quality assurance" I'm simply returning the favour and putting it out for public jury on the "quality of service".

..If anyone is willing or has the time, please support my youtube video by leaving your comments in support of the message. Hopefully when it comes up for review the day after tomorrow youtube staff will realize there's no privacy infringement, so far I've only been notified autonomously by the system.

Hey 5010,

longtime member here on these forums. honestly just wanted to congratulate you. This correspondance between Xplornet and CRTC is the first progress I've seen towards anything from the Gov't. You're YouTube video is the bomb also

Honestly not sure how this company hasn't been investigated by W5 or something. I'm in Ottawa and their service completely cuts out sporadically during peak times. We've been customers for 2 years, simply because dialup is the only option.

Kudos to you, and of course the admin here. I'll stay tuned!

Default Silence from Xplornet with respect to the CRTC letter

So, is the reason why Xplornet has not complied with the CRTC order is that they do not want to make it crystal clear on their site that they are not in compliance with the Industry Canada's policy for rural Internet subsidies?

So,, here's the issue.. your local community gave a whole whack of government fund to provide broadband to your area.. well here's the answer to get the problem solved real quick... Since your elected government decided to fund xplornet and offer you rural broadband with a lie.. ask your local paper to FORCE your eleceted officials to use the service they gave your tax dollars to fund... as xplornet offers satellite... its an easy solution to force EVERYONE one them to sign up with xplornet and pay the dollars you are paying for so called broadband speeds... they gave your tax dollars away to fund them... they are doing it for your benefit right.. so why not make them enjoy the benefits of rural broadband offered by xplornet so they can see how your tax dollars are spent!
