Default I want out! And need advice...

I also sent them this letter asking out of contract. I pay for 1meg service no threshold limit. Now I have been sent an email saying that I only have 20gig a month and if I want more I have to pay $2 a gig. Before giving verbal consent I ask him again about download limit. He said there was none but I might be fap but speed would be back after an hr.
These are a bunch of the crooks and liars
I will let you know if I get an email from them

Got a call from Xplornet trying to convert me to wireless. Said I could download all I wanted on that. I told her I had been lied to too many times I just want contract cancelled.
She assured me contract would be cancelled without penalty. It was to be shut down but 9 hrs later its still running
Thanks to this great forum for informing the public about xplornet

Does the penalty apply to all contracts or just the initial contract and not renewals? I am in the same position as parker93 with the 20 gig letter and no wireless availale...

They are limiting telesat to 20 gigs a month now, with a 2$ overage charge per gig over ?

Hmm, I think I'm going to phone and ask about that.

I have no idea how much we download per month in this household, but once in a while my son does purchase games online from Steam. One of them was a 9 gig download and it took 2 nights to download.

I would think, too, that if they are going to limit one's download like that, in all fairness they would have to provide you with a way to monitor your monthly download so you know if you're getting close to your limit. I mean, isn't this limit being put into place to discourage excessive bandwidth usage? How is one supposed to limit one's usage if one has no idea what it is?

A person sure would have to carefully read the contract and see if there is any sort of provision in there for arbitrarily changing the terms like that.

LOL ... have you Googled who Paul Godin - Director General - Competition, Costing and Tariffs is?

Just the term "Coasting and Tarriffs" lets you know that this guy has NO authority when it comes to ISP. What he sated is his "opinion" carries no weight with government policies. Xplornet has CLEARLY stated what thier traffic managment policy is on their website.

Here is an example straight from their website. They are one of the ONLY ISPs out there that is as open as honest as they can be with their customers.

Quote from www.xplornet.com (Traffic Management): Hourly Example #1 - Downloading multiple songs:

You are on the KaZoom package (top download speed is up to 1.0 Mbps) and you want to download fifteen 4 MB songs. The first 13 songs will download within the allowable download limit at regular speeds. While the 14th file is downloading, you will reach your hourly download limit of 55 MB. We will need to reduce your speed to approximately 10% of your package's top download speed for about 60 minutes. You can continue using your Internet connection at the reduced speed. Approximately 60 minutes later, your KaZoom package should return to the normal speed.

Most of the consumers concerned with the new "cap" on their internet service are up in arms becuse they are finally being mannaged according to their usage! They have been hogging bandwidth from other Xplornet useres for years! It is about time that someone puts a stop to them. Most of these users are using over 100 to 200 GB per month. They are ROAD HOGS ... taking up all the room on the road and are crying now because Xplornet expects them to play fairly. They can keep their speeds ... all they have to do is pay for what they are using. This is new to them since they have never been held accountable before. ANYWAY .... think what you will.

Road hogs? That is horseshit. The amount of money people pay for this slow pathetic, unreliable service, we should be able to download as much as we want. I run bandwith monitors and I don't even get close to 100gb or 200gb a month for that matter...I can only get up to 30gb a month if I am lucky. And keep my speeds? Ha! what speed? Some days I surf the net for an hour an get Fapped...just surfing ...no video...no torrents...just surfing.
Xploitnet needs to get their shit equipment, and services up to par. Capping ain't gonna help shit when the service already is shit. Torrents don't run worth a damn during the day for me so I know I am not "hogging the road" during the day casue I only run them during their fap free period. Personally I have been thinking about going to the Roger's Rocket Hub...I can only get up to 20 to 30 gb on this crap setup so why not spend less money and just go with a 10gb cap..I can handle that...and I will be able to online game at least too.

Sorry, but Xplornet is snowing you there. There is no "hourly download limit of 55 MB" (or any other number) on the Telesat (KaZoom/Zam/etc.) packages. There is an hourly download limit, but it varies depending on usage, and you have to guess what it is. For the Kazam package I've measured it as low as 10 MB. You can hit that with casual surfing.

The rest of their description is fairly accurate, for the Telesat packages.

I think it highly unlikely that people are downloading 100 or 200 GB a month on Telesat. When I was downloading Linux ISOs, I could pull down about 1.5 GB per night on the Kazam package. Call it 45 GB a month, if I did it daily. You might be able to crack 100 GB per month with one of the business plans, but you'd have to plan very carefully to avoid getting FAPped.

So do you work in the Jacksonville, NB office or the Fredericton one ? Are you simply a level 1 tech on the phones, upset over someones call or some middle management type trying to convince a very unhappy user base with some bullshit swirl ?

Btw... 55 Megs X 24 hours X 30 days comes NO WHERE near 100 Gigs. add 25% Add Brad's 1.5 Gig number for night transfers, we are still under 100 Gigs. Add another 10%, for extra fun ! Still under 100 gigs. Who in the Xplornet universe other then perhaps some business plan users, uses more then 100 gigs, let alone anything approaching 200 gigs ? Your so full of shit I can smell you from Royalton, NB.

Actually, looking back at the last tests I performed, I'd say a better estimate is probably 1.2 - 1.25 GB per night on Kazam. The FAP-free period is shorter than it used to be.

You can probably double that on the 1 Mbit package (KaZoom). So you'd need a 1.5 Mbit package (KaBang) to get anywhere near 100 GB. And then you'd have to plan your downloads very carefully to use every bit of the FAP-free period. (I speak from experience. ) It's not something you're going to achieve by just running bittorrent.
