Default SaskTel has no plan

Many of us who live in remote areas have contacted SaskTel to see when we can expect service but it is a great unknown. I was told that at present there is no plan to service the area in which I live!

Oh Look. SaskTel partners with Xplornet to provide one hundred percent coverage........

https://commerce.sasktel.com/eSales/...&SMIDENTITY=NO
EDIT: FireFox hates the link but Link works with the Opera Browser, but the page just goes nuts with some other browser variations.

And theres some error on the page that doesn't allow me to click anything. Awesome......
EDIT: Heres a link and then click on Satellite in the left side pain and still get the error....
http://www.sasktel.com/personal/internet/index.html

But by the reading of it, you just call Xplornet/Telesat. But Xplornet gets a referral from SaskTel and then Xplornet probably gives a kickback or finders fee or whatever you might call it, to SaskTel. Or maybe it's the other way around so SaskTel does not have to provide land based wireless to the whole province. and therefor SaskTel pays Xplornet a bit extra.
Typical one hand washing the other.
EDIT: SaskTel to pay Xplornet 'up to' 6 million dollars over 7 years.

Heres some links that actually work........

http://www.gov.sk.ca/news?newsId=348...a-7ddbbc30cf4f
Under the Rural Infrastructure Program, SaskTel has recently concluded an agreement with Barrett Xplore Inc, who operates Xplornet Internet Services, Canada's largest rural broadband provider. The agreement calls on Barrett Xplore to deliver SaskTel Satellite High Speed Internet powered by Xplornet to rural areas that do not have access to SaskTel's other High Speed Internet services. Full details regarding the service availability will be announced in June 2009.
And theres more...........
As part of the Rural Infrastructure Program, SaskTel is also seeking private sector partners to make proposals to provide high speed Internet to 13 towns out of the 66 new towns that are becoming part of CommunityNet, as well as other unserved areas of the province. SaskTel is exploring partnership options which would allow private sector companies to provide residential high speed Internet in the community in return for a subsidy.
So SaskTel doesn't want to be the carrier for all of Saskatchewan?
But SaskTel will oversee all these little companies, right? And hopefully make sure they all live up to the advertised expectations of an accountable company like SaskTel, Maybe?

Default Hey they are watching us...

Hi all, I've been reading this forum for a while, but never had much to add .... 'til now.
After reading those posts above I did some more research and those points already made by you guys here, plus more I learned or realized along the way, got me really mad.
I have a lowly little blog, just another of millions with about 50 readers, heck I think I post about twice a month.

So I wrote up a post expressing my feelings. I backed it with solid information. I published this Friday and today I received what a appears to be a personalized letter from Robert Watson, CEO of SaskTel.

I will admit I wasn't very nice about my opinion of what they are doing with this Xplornet deal, nor did I try to hide my disdain for SaskTel in general. BUT I stuck to what i knew. Can I help it if half of their "information" is bury deep in their ""Dial Up Restricted" web site?

Anyhow, if you wanna read what I wrote its here
http://countrytowns.ca/blog/index.ph.../27/p39#more39

I'm going to take a day to post a reply to the actual letter and I will post that in the next post so you can all see what he replied. Suffice to say his argument did little to change my POV.

Comments are diabled on my blog, however if you have anything to add, please reply here or email/pm me.
Keep up the good fight!

Hey sorry it took me so long to bring you the SaskTel email and my reply! You can read the CEOs letter to me and my response here....

I am so tired of hearing them brag about how wonderful they are and how much they care about their customers!
This new deal is nothing but a ripoff.
